While the results are not guaranteed – it is possible for an individual to know someone else's birth date and Social Security Number – this service functions as a deterrent and is a commercially reasonable means of verifying age or ensuring the identification of a payor.
As detailed in the Inova Suisse Gateway Integration Specifications , the merchant can specify a minimum age for approving transactions, such that transactions that do not meet the minimum requirement are denied. Minimum age is set up for the overall merchant's account; it cannot be specified with each transaction.
